Long Position Description:
The City of Fountain Valley is seeking a strategic and proactive Risk Manager to join our team.  This management classification is distinguished by the analytical, technical, administrative, budgetary and supervisory responsibility managing the Risk Management Program within the City Clerk’s Department. This classification is at-will and serves at the pleasure of the City Clerk/Risk Administrator.

CLASS DEFINITION
Under general direction of the City Clerk/Risk Administrator, this position will plan, organize, and direct a wide variety of comprehensive risk management activities with City-wide impact, including general liability lawsuits/claims, property and general insurance administration, workers’ compensation, employee safety programming, loss control and loss prevention. The Risk Manager will develop and manage a wide variety of activities to ensure the City’s risk management program, loss control, and related insurance functions are administered in a professional and cost-effective manner.

 

Additional Information
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Human Resources, Public Administration, Industrial Relations, Personnel Management, Legal Studies, or a related field. A master’s degree in a related field is desirable. 

EXPERIENCE
Five years of progressively responsible and professional public sector risk management experience; including experience in general liability, claims, workers’ compensation, employee safety programming, general insurance administration, loss control and loss prevention programs. Experience in a public safety setting such as fire or police is highly desirable.

LICENSE REQUIRED
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.

CERTIFICATION
Possess and maintain a valid Associate in Risk Management (“ARM”) is highly desirable.
FEMA-NIMS Incident Command (ICS) Training for ICS Personnel Designated as Leaders/Supervisors to be completed within twelve (12) months of employment. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must be available evenings and weekends as needed to attend City Council Meetings and urgent City or employee matters.
